About The Oil Engine Club

THE LINCOLNSHIRE OIL ENGINE CLUB (LOEC ) was established in 1975.

It was formed by a group of 'like minded' people with a common interest in 'Oil Engines', also known as 'Stationary Engines'.
They are mostly single cylinder engines, running on petrol or a petrol/paraffin mix.
In their heyday they were used for a variety of purposes, such as running generator sets and driving all manner of rotational machinery using a flat belt between a pulley attached to the engine drive shaft and a pulley on the machinery; machines could be almost anything that rotated, from mills for making flour from grain, milking machines, circular saws, to large industrial machines.
Most of these engines were made between the turn of the 20th Century and the 1960s, Familiar names of manufacturers of these engines include Ruston & Hornsby, Amanco (American), Lister and Petter to name but a few.
35 years on the club is still going strong but due to work, age and declining strength of many of our original members - our numbers have fallen over the last few years.
If you have an oil engine or just have an interest in oil engines and would like meet like minded people who are willing to help and advise you then feel free to come along to one of our meeting nights to see what we're all about and you may even like to join the club and help contribute ideas and any expertise you may have.

WHAT THE CLUB DOES  We meet every 3rd Monday of the month (except January) from around 7.30pm 'til about 10pm at Wragby Town Hall for our social evenings - varying from public speakers giving talks & slide shows on many interesting and varied subjects, to quiz nights, summer evening visits out and much more.
We hold an Annual Club Rally  - this year, once again due to popular demand, it will be at Thorpe Camp Museum, Tattershall Thorpe and will be on Sunday 6th June.
We will be exhibiting our engines & and bygones as usual and will meet up with friends - old & new.
As well as the club rally, most of the members also exhibit their engines at shows throughout the summer season.
We also organise a couple of day trips out each year on a coach, usually costing less than £20 per person (to include the coach and entry fees to the museums/venues). The first one this year is to the Shuttleworth Collection and a visit  to the nearby Swiss Gardens on Sunday 25th April 2010 (contact Paul Gash for details).
We have an annual 'Xmas dinner in late November at the North Shores Hotel in Skegness with a Disco of our choice too.

JOINING THE CLUB  If you would like to come and join us or even just visit or look in on a meeting night to see what goes on and chat to members ( we're a very friendly lot ) then please come along to Wragby on any club night but please check with one of the people on the contact page to make sure it is not one of the nights when there is an evening trip, as no meeting is held at Wragby on those nights. At some point soon we will put our Club Events Calendar dates on here or on the 'Latest News' page.
If you come along to any of the Rallies & Events, just come and speak to any of the club members who will be only too pleased to talk to you.
YOU DON'T NEED TO OWN AN ENGINE to be a member!  Membership is £10 per year and includes club liability insurance (BUT NOT ENGINE INSURANCE), a rally list of the events that we can attend throughout the coming year (which will also appear on this website and be kept updated), and a regular newsletter.
If this is your first visit to this website we would be most grateful if you could put a small entry onto the guest book page just so we know we have visitors and what you think of the site so far. You can continue to put comments on there anytime, especially if you have any info or dates about Rallies or farm machinery auctions which can be a useful place to find engines . Thank you.
